Molicel Lithium-ion Cell – Successful Example of Solar
Power Energy; Receives 7th in “The Eighth World Solar Power Automobile
Racing”
As
Taiwan’s leading solar powered automobile racer group, the
Apollo (National Kaosiung University of Applied Sciences --
KUAS) attends Australia’s World Solar Power Automobile Racing
in September. After eight days of racing (and by using Molicel’s
newest high-rate power battery in Apollo the Fifth). It beat
30 other teams from around the world and achieved the seventh
place. The vehicle can go as fast as 150 km an hour.
This year is the eighth year of Australia’s World Solar Power
Automobile Racing. It is viewed as having the most challenging
geographical condition for such racing. The race begins on
September 25th and lasts for eight days, with a total of 3021
kilometer route – all across the Australian continent. The
students of KUAS use Apollo the Fifth as their racing motor,
which has a streamline exterior minimizing wind resistance.
Not only so, its structure, materials, LED capacity, driving
control system have all been greatly improved. Not to mention,
the automobile uses Molicel’s IMR -26700 lithium-ion cell (voltage
reaching up to an average of 30A – enabling the car to reach
150km/hour; and 130km/hour under a wind level of seven) which
has great stability and duration period.
KUAS used Korean cell during last year’s race, leading to
unsatisfying results. This year, the switched to IMR-26700
cell series, achieving high efficiency, long duration, and
other superiorities. In the future, they may very likely collaborate
with Molicel again, developing more sophisticated solar-powered
vehicles and achieving higher honors.
Besides entering and leading the “Solar-power Electricity
Development” in the industry like previously mentioned, Molicel’s
IMR-26700 series also seeks to break into power tools market
– providing production of cells, battery concepts, chargers
– summing up to a “Total Solution”. Its products are now applied
by the world’s biggest power tool company --- TTI Group. Also,
Molicel’s batteries have high stability and great properties.
Thus it’s also used by various military groups in the US; usage
includes wireless handsets, computers, flashlights, etc.
As for business use, Molicel has started development of e-bikes
and electric skateboards since 2000. The relating researches
and projects have all reached maturing stage and have received
attention from dealers worldwide. As for wireless domestic
use appliances, its products are already applied to such items
as electric rollers, lawn mowers, automobile vacuum cleaners,
etc. In the future, Molicel will continue to develop higher
efficiency and higher rate products.
